WHAT?Full Replacement Passenger Lift & Shaft Structure

Situated in the heart of Bolton town centre, Bolton Central Library & Museum forms part of the stunning Grade 2 listed Le Mans Crescent complex completed in 1934. Part of Bolton MBC’s civic property portfolio, the building is public access, providing a library, diverse museum with an aquarium and art gallery to its many visitors.

The project brief to refurbish the buildings internal common areas included replacement of the existing 30 year old worn and unreliable hydraulic passenger lift, situated in a free standing self- contained steel frame shaft structure within the buildings main ornate wrap around stairwell and serving all public levels of the building.

ANSA’s solution as designed, supplied, installed and commissioned, was to disassemble and remove to scrap the existing installation and shaft structure and replace with a modern commercial duty high quality AC-PM gearless traction MRL type passenger lift within a new full height steel frame shaft structure, complete with aesthetic cladding and a system capacity maximised to suit the available footprint inside the existing grade 2 listed stairwell.

The project was carried out on a ‘turnkey’ basis by ANSA, including shaft structure and a very, very complicated cantilevered shaft scaffolding solution  inside a fully segregated works space while the building remained fully operational and open to the general public.

General aesthetic is intentionally neutral complemented with glazed door panels to heritage approval.

ANSA can offer bespoke lift shaft structures in a plethora of designs, finishes, and made to measure any footprint.
